Little painting advice needed.....just before clear coat..

Okay i'm just spraying a spoiler for my car and have carefully done the grey plastic undercoat, sanded it and applied it again and sanded it.

I've applied 2 coats of colour and am ready for the clear coat to go on. If i rub down the coloured coat then itll go to a scratchy matt finish before putting my clear coat on....

Will this make it look crap? should I polish up the coloured coat with rubbing compound before putting on the clear coat?

I'm guessing that the clear coat sort of blends into the coloured coating and takes away the matt look of the colour.

Many thanks for your help

if it is metallic, then usually you would not rub down as this would stuff the appearance/color. if it is a plain colour then rub it down using about

600 grit wet with detergent/water, then clear coat.

Yeah its a metallic blue (Amparo Blue, Ford)

So I just leave the colour as from the last spraying and lacquer straight onto that then?

Thanks for your help mrcheerful!

fraid so, so your last colour coat needs to be put on fairly wet, so it doesn't have lots of dry lumps on it. then the clear coat will fill the voids/depressions between metallic lumps
