Lucas alternator spares.

I think I need a new alternator regulator for my SD1. Any decent suppliers for things like this?

I got a reconditioned 80A Range Rover alternator for mine for £68 from my local auto 'lectricians. They've probably got the regulators in stock. I'll ask if you like.

RPI Engineering or v8engines.com will sort you out.

If you could, Pete. I'm not sure what the Lucas model is - some say it's a

25 ACR, but mine has the high output type they fitted to later AC cars. It's a Quinton Hazel re-con which hasn't done many miles - and their cat. couldn't find it by car model but said the one I had was for an XJ6. ;-)

I'd say it unlikely either of those would do alternator spares. Complete units, yes.

Do oany of these look familiar?

Those appear to be external types. It's built into the alternator on mine.

There seems to be a good choice on EBay if you're a user. Why do you think it's gone - intermittent overcharging/whining, warning lamp not working?

Ah, A127 perhaps?

Think that's for a later series of units - mine is an ACR. The reg is sort of square and all the connections flying leads. I've seen them on Ebay - but not sure what one fits a 75 amp unit.

I have seen them - but they don't seem to list my particular model which I know is different from the majority of V8 SD1s. Unless the regs are common to different output ones.

Wildly varying voltage across the battery when charging hard after say a cold start. Flicks from mid 13s to mid 14s back and forth. More stable when the battery charges up but still flicks about a bit. And a whine on the radio that wasn't there before.

I'm pretty sure it's an A127 I've got on mine. The autosparks just put the SD1 alternator light terminal on it so I didn't have to change anything. It's made a big difference, now the windows still work at full speed when it's night, the headlights and heater are on and I'm sitting at the lights with my foot on the brake, at idle, indicating..

That's the complete unit? Must admit I'm not impressed with the performance of the standard one - it does sort of balance the load but that's about all. It's slow to charge the battery when that's low.

So, definitely not something in the battery, like a flake of metal, waving around and intermittently shorting out a cell?
