Merc E280 Starting Problem

I have a problem with my T reg E280 auto. Twice recently, it wouldn't start. It would crank over, but wouldn't fire. I then left it for 10 to 15 minutes and it started straight away.

With so many electrical interlocks, I suspect the immobiliser system.

I know it's not much to go on, but has anyone got any experience of similar problems on E class Mercs? I'm reluctant to ask MB, but would their diagnostic computer be able to tell what caused the problem?

TIA

Check the fuel relay. You know when you turn the ignition on, you hear a couple of motors/solenoids run for a few seconds? If you _don't_ hear those, the culprit is probably the relay. On the old 230E it was behind the battery; it's a black box about 4" square by 1.25" deep. The relay in that developed a dry joint on mine, giving me similar symptoms initially. Later it cut out a couple of times while driving, then refused completely, leaving me with a 150 mile recovery in the middle of my holidays :-(

I know the 280 is a 6-cylinder but I believe the cars are mechanically quite similar otherwise. I think I've still got the (repaired) part; email me a part number.
