Hiya Guys

Whats the best engine coolant to use on a M Reg 1.8lt Golf. Mine is looking a little brown and rather thin, so it could do with replacing (and with winter on it's way).

Cheers all.

Have alook where your gunna drain it from most convienently- bottom hose is best and slacken the clip (usually they break so have a new one of correct size standing by) and loosen the hose on the pipe stub carefully. Then fully warm the engine with the expansion cap loose til its nice n hot then switch off. Turn the heater to hot then remove the hose and loose out the old coolant. Allow to cool then flush out the block, expansion tank and radiator as best you can with garden hose- this is the messy bit. Depending on how much crap is in there I might refill with water alone, bleed, and run the car til hot again to flush out some more muck.

Use Ethylene Glycol (ideally mono-ethylene gycol) at 50%- best to mix about

3 litres it in a large jug first, pour that in, then mix further small amounts that you need. Fill slowly and then with the cap off start the engine allow to warm fully, continue topping up as needed, then replace the cap go for a short drive. Top up as needed then again when the engine is cold. Check it acouple of times again after especially for leaks etc.

VAG G12plus. Drain old coolant by pulling lower radiator hose (remove clip first).
