Modern cars are bad

My mother (who does about 2000 miles a year in a 4 year old Peugeot 307) said she was thinking about down sizing. Automatic essential. "Oh, I was thinking of a 207". (Me, laughing) "Erm, no, it's the same size, besides your 307 is only worth half what you thought. How about a late, old shape Micra or Yaris?"

Eeh, when I were a lad, a nearby village high street had room for parking and two streams of traffic. Now, the parking is kept for traffic calming.

I've tried one 2008 - still gives me nightmares. It was works pool car, 4+me aboard. Night time, winter, road grey brown, kerb grey brown, verge grey brown, hedge grey brown all covered by road filth.

90 degree right hand bend and the road vanished as the only feature of reference was the white line and that had disappeared behind the pillar.

You "turn in when the white line vanishes". I not a believer but it takes a huge act of faith and does make one pray for divine deliverance.

If the white line reappears in the front screen during the manoeuvre then you are in the oncoming lane. If it appears in the side window then you are going up the kerb and though the scenery.

My first car was a mk4 Cortina, i now drive an 06 Mondeo, while I do find the huge A post in the Mondeo to be a pain sometimes compared to the skinny ones on the Cortina I know which I'd rather be in if I rolled.
