Mondeo Tyre Wear / Is this a suspension problem ?

I've got a '98 Mondeo done 122,000 miles and just took it to the tyreplace for a free check of the tyres/alignment as it wanders to theleft.The chap checked the tyre pressures and pumped up accordingly as acouple were a bit low.He then checked the tyres and said the front drivers side was worn onthe inside showing the wire and dangerous,He checked the back tyres and noted that the rear passenger side had"uneven wear" on the outside edge.He advised me to go to a mechanic to check the rear suspension as this"uneven wear" was a pointer to a suspension problem and to come backto check the alignment etc once any faults were sorted.So for now he put the spare on the front to replace the dangeroustyre.My question is ............Does anyone know if this is a valid diagnosis of a potential knackeredrear suspension ?Can a faulty rear suspension make a car wander to the left ?If so do you know the sort of price on average it might cost to getsomething like this fixed ?Would this mean replacing suspension on both sides if a fault is onlyon one side ?Could anything else cause this kind of wear on the rear tyre ?PDS

Right, the garage checked my sub-frame alignment and found it to be out. They re-aligned this and set tracking etc and HURRAH !!! this sorted the drifting to the left and it drives straight as an arrow now !!!!!!!

So I have also had all FOUR tyres replaced with a beautiful set of Firestones. It handles wonderfull and grips like s*it to a shovel.
