Multipla crunchy gears

2000 Multipla 105 Diesel. Clutch is recent, slave cylinder is new, master cylider shows no signs of leak.

Most of the time the gears change smoothly but in particular when in hot weather and a while into a long journey the gears are difficult to engage, particularly 1st and reverse.

Any ideas?

Rick

I thought as much. It is surprising just how bad it can be, can you enlighten as to why?

I have been away for a while, I take it Conor didn't come and get you!

It is, I wonder if it is worth bleeding the whole system and replacing the fluid. Am I correct that moisture can be absorbed leading to this type of problem?

Dunno - it appears to be a Fiat thing - if you've done a long run in

5th, on a motorway, for example, then they often are sticky to get into 1st - you can get them into reverse by lifting the clutch pedal a bit.

Did you really think he would?

Gearbox shaft dry or very slightly bent- causing the plate not to slide back far enough..

Any oil in the gearbox?

It can, and does absorb moisture. There might be some air in there too so it wouldn't hurt to change the fluid. Doesn't look fun though...
