On a more serious note, why are you even asking? If it is just the release bearing, of course you should replace the clutch at the same time.

Yep. It's daft not to if dropping the 'box, plus there's a chance the pressure plate will be damaged.

Hell yeah, piss easy job, you might find it's not the clutch though. My money would be on the gearbox input bearing....

MX5 motors charge 200 quid for a clutch intstalled mate, so bear that in mind.

judder won't be caused by the release bearing . so you need to replace the lot and check the flywheel condition.

Unless it's sticking on the splines, but I've made the mistake of just changing 1 bit & unless it's a transit/ldv driven plate that's sheared I'm never doing it again.

Probably the pressure plate springs getting chewed by whatever is bost in the release mechanism.

Good idea, the gearbox bearing would give noise all the time, usually quieter in the higher gears, but without a test drive it is impossible to tell .
