Car on a SORN. Taxed it online on Sunday but waiting for tax to arrive.
Just wondered how I stand if I used it on road. I could put the DVLA receipt on dash to show its been taxed and paid for. Might need to park in place wehere council wardens patrol. Would I get fine?

Technically it is an offence and you could be fined, in practise you will probably be OK. DVLA are pretty quick with their post these days.
You only get days of grace IF it is renewal (not SORN) AND you renew online before the end of the previous month.
There are two offences: Not having a RFL and not displaying a RFL.
Not sure about Wardens (not even sure if they can report for RFL offences) but police report both offences to the DVLA who decide on any prosecution. Whilst you commit the offence of failing to display, I would expect the DVLA to take no further action in the circumstances outlined.
That's what I thought some 30+ years ago when I forgot to put the new tax disc in the holder. Plod stopped me and said "They'll check it out and if it's taxed you probably won't hear any more about it". I swapped the new disc in as soon as I got home.
The court summons came, and I was angry, so instead of paying the fine I went to court and explained and apologised on behalf of myself *and* the cop for wasting court time. The nice lady magistrate gave me an absolute discharge, and it's still the only moving traffic offence I've ever been charged with.
My disc was more than one month overdue, you might be lucky, that cop was in front of me at a junction, and spotted my out of date disc in his mirror!
