OT Travelling through Birmingham road works

I'm travelling from Stoke to Bristol next Tuesday morning at about 11. Has anybody with local, recent experience got any advice?

I'd have said check the Google Maps navigation app the day before, their "real time" information is usually not bad.

But I see I'm a bit too late!

Don't?

:-)

I live in Walsall, and work some way south of Birmingham, so I do part of that journey every day, sadly.

The M6 J6 (Spaghetti) works shouldn't bother you at that time unless something goes very wrong.

The M5 works are a huge, huge pain during busy times, but shouldn't be too busy at that time, but it will add a few minutes to your journey- hard to predict- this mornings commute was probably only 5min longer, but Monday added 15-20 min to a typically 45 min drive. The first day it was on, compounded by a breakdown in the 2-lane bit, it was nearer 2 hours :-(

M5 is two narrow lanes between J1 & J2 with a contraflow. When you join the M5 south stay out of L1 as that peels off to J1 only- but the M6S-M5S sliproad will dump you in L2 anyway. Same applies northbound at J3.

Stick to the limits: 50mph on approach *30* in the contraflow.

I'm the OP. I made the journey there and back more quicky than usual. It could be the traffic was lighter because of the deterrent effect.

Could be. The M42 is more dire than ever before.

I've found it to be incredibly unpredictable :-(
