hi ,i've got a 95 mondeo hatch on local driving it ticks over mint about

800-900 rpm,but on a long trip if i stop say at lights etc it ticks over at about 1500-2000 rpm it even ticked over at 3000rpm yesterday when i had to stop on the motorway. any ideas please. cheers iain

Diesel? Petrol? Av-Gas? Bit more info would help! Petrol models have a problem with drawing air at a little rubber t-piece under the coil pack... causing high idle RPM... Diesels have a problem with breaking the high idle return spring on the inj pump.

Sticking?! LOL Have you any idea of how the (assuming) TPS works and is mounted? Its not spring loaded in any form- its positively driven one way or other by the throttle shaft- it cant stick.

Although a faulty or sticking throttle cable / pedal / return spring would cause the throttle not to shut completely.

Tim..
