PCD - How critical?

Are you talking about wheel studs/bolts here? If so, you're getting into some dangerous ground. In order to make the wheel go on to the hub you'll either have to make the studs smaller or the holes larger, and how are you going to get it central? Or are you talking about changing both the hub and the wheel? in which case, why?

A few details wouldn't go amiss here. (I'm assuming you're not referring to the pussycat dolls)

if you're trying to fit a 108 pcd wheel onto 100 pcd studs you won't be going anywhere :-)

Absolutely do not do it!! there is no room for manouevre on PCD unless the wheel is designed for it with slots instead of circular holes (rare) I once tried to use ford wheels on a fiat , the difference was only 2mm on the pcd and the wheel bolts went in, but the sideways strain on the studs was quite noticeable and I am certain that it would have resulted in breakage and wheel loss if I had driven far on it (I used the car for just a few laps in banger racing)

Depends on whether you want to hold the wheel onto the car or not.

AND the spigot had better fit perfect or get spigot rings to make sure the wheel runs true.

That is a strange coincidence: It was 'Promotasport Raceway International' or 'PRI' that I used to race with. Nowhere near that outfit though.

Hehehe. I've splayed the studs out a bit then hammered a 4 stud wheel with a PCD a few mm out on in a banger derby. So it's possible to fit wheels with the wrong PCD but you'd be nuts to do it on a car you're planning to use on the road.

Its not a matter of opinion, it's fact. Correct PCD is absolutely critical.

Why not just use adaptors?

Because the extra 75mm of offset would also bugger the handling :-)

Can be had as thin as 25.4mm (and maybe 25mm).

By the time you're ordering those you could just buy the wheels with the right pcd :-)

Compact banger in the fence...

that is still in good order, Arena is the place for hard racing !!! Mind you I went to watch at a track in a field at Braintree once, they had an enormous tree in the middle of the track, and a high speed banked bend, trouble was that there was nothing to stop the cars leaving the track and hurtling to their doom off the top, in addition the local cars had their cooling systems inside the cockpit. The St. John people were kept really busy at that track, I would not race there, it was too risky.

At the time we still ran with radiators in the back. There's a photograph somewhere of me standing in my overalls on the infield gently steaming after I rolled a van on a cold March day.

Top Tip: don't attach the radiator frame to both the roof and floor of your van banger as it rips the radiator in half when you roll.
