I fitted new shoes and hand brake cables Operating the foot brake produced ratchet noises as the hand brake auto adjusted. On applying the hand brake it got to the 7th notch and something let go on one side, at 11 notches the other side let go. Applied foot brake it clicked as the ratchet took up the slack and let go exactly the same on re-applying handbrake. Stripped brakes and found the teeth on lower ratchet cam smeared. Drilled old cam off old shoes and rebuilt. Still the same but all ratchet teeth are OK.
