Well with the rain a road flooded unknown to me.

Good job it wasn't a cyclist who'd fallen off, eh? Or somebody on your side of the road to avoid the water on their side. That wouldn't have been fun, would it?

What happened to driving within the distance you can see to be clear?

Car filled but floated.

This is the important bit...

If you *really* mean it "filled", then it's a write-off. You are going to have an *immense* number of electrical problems from now to the end of time.

So he is towing the car back and says hopefully it will start.

What is it? How new? Either just scrap it and buy a replacement or claim and buy a replacement, according to how much it's worth and what insurance you've got.

Car is Escort LXi 1.8

It filled yes. But not all the way. Below window level

Michael ( snipped-for-privacy@yourbusiness.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

That's MORE THAN high enough to flood every single ECU in the car, and f*ck them up *royally*...

Throw it away. It's not worth losing the NCB for a claim, even if it's fully comp.

Well car is back.

Mechanic said let it dry and see how it goes

Well , see if it works. But if it dosn't it's dead, it'll be cheaper to sell it for scrap & buy another than start fixing it.

DuncanWood ( snipped-for-privacy@dmx512.co.uk) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

Even if it does, there's going to be all sorts of problems with

*everything* develop down the line, as corrosion starts to play havoc.

Sorry! It was the red flag-man's night off.

Hi Peop's

Not to mention the pong!!

Sounds like you drove into a pond...."half filled to below windows" ?!! Tim..

It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember "Steve Sweet" saying something like:

Oh yes; the smell is going to be there permanently.

The message from " Tim \(Remove NOSPAM." contains these words:

I went through a rather deep bit on Thursday night - about a foot or so, which is a lot for a car. I got rather wet 'cos before I could get my window up, not only did I get my own splash through the window - but a bus went the other way. I was dropping when I got out.

You can get rid of the pong, you just need to take all the seats, carpet and sound insulation out, clean them and dry them thoroughly.

I did a similar thing with a vauxhall nova, decided to drive through' a flooded road near York, only it was a lot deeper than I expected, about bonnet height at deepest, I made it 2/3 of the way across before it conked out so I got out and pushed. I managed to bump start it again and it was fine for another 30000 miles.

It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember Guy King saying something like:

First speed wading experience I had was in a ShiteOldMinor. The water pressure under the tranny tunnel blew the gearlever gaiter off and the subsequent waterspout hit the roof and thoroughly soaked me and my passenger.

The message from Grimly Curmudgeon contains these words:

Short pause while I wipe snot off the monitor.

My first flood experience was in a 1989 Fiat Uno.

The water came right through the engine bay and into the footwell, thoroughly soaking my legs. I managed to jerk it out of the flood and still drove it home. Being my first car, and me being a bit younger at the time, I was more bothered by the fact that I had lost a wheel trim in the incident rather than any damage to the car!

*chuckle*

I did speed wading in a Honda Civic VTi at 60-ish. There had been a huge downpour earlier in the day that had had me feeling dangerously fast at

40mph in the inside lane of the M40. It hadn't rained for 4 hours or so when I headed back to Surrey from Wiltshire and I went cross country down the A4. Came to a big dip in the road and saw the sign on the roadside warning about flooding but I could see that the road went down a few feet, flattened off and then climbed back out of the dip. Except that in the twighlight I'd registered it *ever so slightly wrong*. As the nose hit the *level road* and broke the surface on the way down I realised what I was seeing... On the plus side, the revs were high, I came out with the engine still running and didn't damage the car... apart from one minor detail that grabbed my attention as the wall of water ran up the windscreen with my brain screaming "You've got the sunroof open!".

I was moving fast enough that the water hit the back seats and missed me entirely.

Didn't half take some cleaning and drying though.

*applause*

I once went boating at Bourton on the water in my Mondeo. I switched off as I dived in as I knew I'd fill the inlet duct and the abiding memory is emerging the other side in silent majesty with a live mallard as a hood ornament.

I'd filled the airbox to the filter with river water - my switch off was just in time to not lock the engine solid.

It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember Warwick saying something like:

LOL!
