Renault megane 1.6 16v chugging.

Feb 03, 2010 3 Replies

We recently bought this W reg 67k on the clock.

For the last few days it has ran fine without issue. Today the wife rang to say it was 'chugging'.

I took it for a spin and sure enough it can only be described as chugging, one moment little or no power the next normal acceleration then back to chugging.

I know bugger all about motors but lifted the bonnet and there is a distinct clicking/ticking coming from what appears to be one of the cylinders, much louder than I would expect. I assume there must be a misfire, or a faulty cylinder????

Took it out again, for a moment it chugged then cleared and stayed normal for the next few miles so I took it back home. Opening the bonnet the clicking was still there but it idles fine.

Any ideas? It was very low of fuel when we got it with the warning light on, could it be dirt in the fuel pump?

Any help appreciated.

plugs first, coil packs second

Hi, thanks for the reply, plugs I can do, but um coil packs? I will have a Google.

Cheers.

Seconded. Coil pack. £24 each delivered on Ebay if you have the

2-cyl-per-pack coils.
