Rover 214SLi M reg

When I lock my doors which has central locking fitted with an alarm the buttons on the drivers door & behind dont lock anymore, the back one has done this for ages now but now the drivers door has gone as well. Any suggestions how much it will cost to be repaired or can I do it myself [novice - no idea]

The lock motors on that age of Rover get very lazy after a few years.

While it's possible to "fettle" them [1] it doesn't usually last for long before they revery to their sluggardly ways. If you can get genuine Rover locks all well and good, if not then it's possible to adapt the Maplin system.

[1] Pull the units apart and prise the brushes out of the motors, stretch the springs on them, bend the tabs that stop the brushes going in too far a tiny bit and put 'em back together again.

A good start would be to clean all the connectors in the loom of which there will be several. It's often voltage drop that stops them working, so replacement motors may not cure it - although if the voltage drop is in the *motor* connector it may appear to.

But is the fault the same if you lock from the door?

I tried opening & closing the door with the key & the buttons work on the drivers door so that will do for now.
