Have a sort of musty smell when the aircon is on. Similar to what you get when cleaning back of a fridge.
A friend reckons its the pollen filter that need replacing as it amy be full of bacteria and pollen. Circulation isnt affected.
Where are the pollen filters located on a 1997 rover 618i and is it easy to replace.

I've got a Rover 200 and I have a weird smell when the air conditioning is first put on. It lasts a few minutes then seems to disappear, although it could be that we get used to it! I'd like to know what it might be too. Mel.

There's been a mistake at the factory. Rovers are supposed to smell like that ALL the time.
change the filter BUT also get spray from motor factors to disinfect the pipes you really need to do this - the pong/bacteria can easily cause lower respratory tract infections
Are you sure it's not mildew? That really makes a car stink when you turn the air con on. There are outlets that will clean your air con system.
