Rover 75, V8 lumpy after 50 miles

Oh, and btw - my road isn't even on Streetview for some bizarre reason.

Mine is, and the postcode I gave it should be easy enough to find my old house as it has the Puma and MX-5 parked outside..

I'm afraid I cannot recall ever stating any such thing. I have no doubt at all that many car buyers do indeed buy a particular car simply because it is a 'better' car than their neighbour's next door.

I agree 100% - I'm simply pointing out the error in Adrian's claim that if buyers didn't like the hard suspension on their prospective purchase, they wouldn't buy it. The fact is that the majority don't know it's got a bloody awful ride until they've had it a few weeks.

LOL! OK

Looks like a very nice estate Mike.

C'mon Mike. *All* of those reviewers (and anyone of dozens of others you can come up with) all say the same, that the ride quality of the 75 is superb.

But my opinions are backed up by dozens of professional reviewers!

"Ret." gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

Because, Kevin, dearie, by the standards of what they drive all-day-every- day the ride quality of the R75 is above average. Nobody has claimed otherwise.

Is that the same as "superb", in absolute standards? No. It is not. Only you are claiming that it is.

I repeat my analogy about fast food and microwave ready-meals.

Clearly, this is too difficult a concept for you to grasp. I can only presume it's because you actually think that microwave ready-meals ARE good food.

That I made the right choice, because both the Ladas were remarkably trouble free (apart from the periodic need to clean up the ignition switch contacts in my second Lada).

A sentence which, without any further explanation required, says everything there is to know about the value of your opinions.

If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand.

See my response to Adrian.

I was trading in a Morris 1100 that had caused me no end of expense in repairs and body welding. Every single year, in order to get through the MOT, it required over-sills welding on, or patches putting in the flooring or on the sub-frames. I even replaced both front wings myself with fibre-glass wings that I pop-riveted on (the 'trumpet' strengtheners on the inner wings were shot to hell as well).

I was sick and fed up of struggling to keep an old heap on the road - and that was why I made the decision to buy a nearly new Lada, rather than a much older Ford or Vx etc. Don't forget that in those days it was par for the course to have wings and door panels rusting through in less than five years (despite liberal dousings with Waxoyl!) I'd had enough of that.

Not at all. The fact is that what inspires one driver may not inspire another. A hard riding BMW with very low profile tyres may inspire some - but I would hate it. You still seem to think that everyone should think like you when it comes to driving enjoyment.

They are probably worried about getting their camera nicked if they drive past a pikey site.

Well, you did...

Here's what I said...

Ah - so it's 'keeping up with the Jones's that is at the top of the list for many people then? That's why they end up with Mercedes with hard seats and hard ride quality - just so they can impress other people?

That's only about 5 posts ago. Is your memory that bad?

Then they are morons. I can tell if a car as a bloody awful ride within about 2 miles. Usually less, given the state of the roads round here.

It is, so far. Unbelievably though, the first night we were there after moving in, someone broke into my car! When I told the police and neighbours, they simply didn't believe me! It's been lovely since. The one problem with it is that it's a little *too* nice. I'm 36, I don't exactly have wild parties any more, but a summer BBQ in the silence does have you a little paranoid that you'll be pissing someone off with the "noise" of 10 or so people... no one's ever actually complained or said anything, but I just don't like to annoy my neighbours!

Not at all - you have just misinterpreted what I typed. I was not suggesting that people *don't* buy a car to impress - I was simply being scathing about the fact that they do - and often end up with a car that is not as pleasant to own (and a lot more expensive to run) as a result.

And me also - but how else can you explain the number of car owners in the survey who slated their cars for poor ride quality?

That's one of the benefits of living on a nice estate - in general the neighbours tend to be considerate. My front drive and caravan (parked at the front of the house) desperately need pressure washing - but my neighbour across the road is on nights this week, and sleeping during the day - so I've put it off.

Heh, indeed. My last place we lived in Flackwell Heath, I was working nights, and I told the neighbour. He said he'd be as quiet as he could, then started building cabinets and doing god knows what in the daytime making a hell of a racket.

I was working 4 on, 4 off, so I hoovered at 3am three nights running. He got the message...

'I asked a friend' he immediately said that that model suffers with inadequate fuel flow and fuel vaporisation, and that the fuel filter needs to be changed every other service, so if it has not been changed very recently then that is the first thing to try.

Many thanks to all, especially the gents giving info on coil packs.

As per usual that Mr Cheerful; is a 'Top Man'.

It's a neighbours car, and when I just phoned him; despite being a pensioner I could swear he's jumping up and down for joy at the other end of the phone, since no one he contacted had any ideas about his problems ! Are you guys great or what !!
