Rover ZT brake wear limit indicator

How do these work are they normally closed circuit and become open when chewed up by the discs. it's for a mate of mine he has just replaced the pads on the front but the wear limit indicator is still on and it looks pretty chewed to me.

I think they are normally closed BCBW. They should be renewed at the same time as the pads.

Closed circuit. Strip of wire in the pad. When the pad wears through so the wire is exposed, it provides a ground via the brake disc thus sending a 0V signal to the ECU/bulb.

If it's separate from the pad and has been worn such that the warning has come on it has to be replaced.
