rusty exhaust

Hello,

The outer layer of my exhaust had rusted. The garage said it was nothing to worry about and cut off the rusty outer layer. It kept me going for a few months more before I needed a new one.

What would they have used to cut off the rusty bit? Tin snips? I'm sure they can't angle grind it because the sparks might do some damage to something... petrol tank BOOM?!

If tin snips will do they job, I'll remember that and DIY next time.

Thanks.

depends on access : I often find the loose metal skin can be torn off by hand, if not then tin snips or an air hacksaw or stabsaw will do it, no problem using a grinder either, but non sparking mechanical cutting is nicer, especially if the customer is watching.
