Seat Alhambra Automatic transmission slipping 29,000 miles

Have been told my late 01 car needs a new gearbox at a cost of 3000 euros. Anyone else had problems with their Alhambra, Sharan or Galaxy? The car is Tiptronic and driven in automatic so can't see what I've done to cause this

You have grounds to complain under the goods-fit-for purpose law's - A new car should be expected to reasonably last more than 4 years without a major mechanical failure. Also get a second opinion from another dealer and a good independent auto gearbox specialist. I would complain like crazy to the dealer and VW and try to get some goodwill support. I wouldn't touch a tiptronic system myself though, they are still too new, technology wise.

I have a similar problem. My Alhambra is just 3 years old with 50,000 km on the clock. I have been quoted 5000 euros plus labour! I am taking it up with SEAT in Belgium where I live. I my case it only happens when the gearbox gets hot - usually after an hour on the motorway. If you get a good resolutin to yuor orbelm - or even a good diagnosis(!) please let me know. I'll do the same for you.
