skoda octavia gearbox prob

anyone had experience of the gearboxes on the 1.6? I came out of work to find a pool of oil on floor. Its not been hit, or grounded. its 1998 t reg with 36k on it.

I cant see under where its coming from due to bad back.

I can select gears and car moves. but didnt drive more than 10 yards.

No experience of this, but first, are you sure it's gearbox oil (does it smell of cat's pee)?

If you are then you'll have to get someone to have a look for you - you don't want to drive it without oil coz it won't like it.

Si

it does have a aroma. not familier with cat pee lol. its not brake fluid, level not dropped(hydral clutch type)

it is comming from the box, but to what part, dunno, ie case crack?? or shaft/sleecter seal?

pass. shed!!!! from a owner of skodas since 88.

How big a pool? If the case isn't cracked & the seal hasn't visibly popped out then you'd only exepct to see that which has accumulated on the box as you where driving.

there is a 2foot sodden patch under the box.

  • a few drips when i moved it.

Hmmm that's a big leak for a gearbox if it's not cracked, it's not a small gearbox leak mixed with some coolant by any chance ?

so far, it seems, via aa, that the dif case has cracked, but i KNOW i not hit it, ever. owned since new.

IIRC, the Octavia gearbox is a known weak point.

Pete.

I'm sure somthing nasty goes wrong with golf gboxes too
