squeeling slipping noise on car when cold

When the car is cold I get a squeeling slipping noise from my car, it happens when you change down to a lower gear, but stops when the engine gets cold. It is a j reg renault clio anyone know what it is?

Sounds like a slipping fan belt...just needs tightening up a tad.

Maybe you mean it stops when the engine gets warm...

Probably the alternator belt is not tight enough.

Or a slipping power steering belt if the car has power steering. Either way the remedy is the same. :-)
