Teaching a learner

Can one book in for a 'check' test, with no reprecussions if you fail?

The message from Ian Stirling contains these words:

Not with the DSA, but driving schools will happily do so.

And like MOT stations that do repairs, don't think for one minute it'll be unbiased.

The message from Conor contains these words:

Depends very much on the instructor. After all, if you make clear at the outset that you're only doing one hour and that you've no intention of paying for any more you'll probably get a reasonable assesment.

So why did you give up being a driving instructor? Full of adverts in newspapers and radio encouraging people to become one saying you can earn so much money etc.

I know these companies are just selling courses really.

The message from Brian Sanders contains these words:

'Cos to earn the sort of money they claim you have to be out on the road all the hours god sends - weekends, evenings, early morning - the times people want lessons.

We had our first kid on the way and I got offered a job as fleet manager/mechanic/driver trainer for the local Community Transport which paid about the same money for a 30 hour week and came with a fully equipped workshop I could use any time of day or night as much as I liked. It was also 300 yards from home, 20 yards from the wife's office and shared an entrance with the nursery.

I couldn't see the point in having kids if you're never there to enjoy them - which is why I now send the wife out to work while I look after the kids.

DING!

Same reason the job doesn't interest me.

So you got a job that you hate, driving lorries to godforsaken places in the middle of the night and spending your time through the day all irritable and shouty?

You must really love your kids.

Course, you'd have to learn the Highway Code as well...

(sorry, couldn't resist) ;-)

LOL.

Talking of which, gave a muppet lane blocker lorry driver a bollocking on the A38 today at the roadworks approaching J28 M1. As I approached in a clear L2, he dived out in front of me. Managed to get alongside him. Silly arse thought I wanted a chat. He compounded his stupidity at Tibshelf services at the top of the climb from J28 by not dropping back to let a poor sap in who had been tramping past him up most of the hill.
