The Proton dealers here in the UK are a little greedy... I had to buy a MAP sensor for one of our Protons at almost the same time I had to buy one for a Peugeot 406.
Peugeot wanted £46. Proton wanted over £110. I sourced one for the Proton at a local scrapyard for £1...

then it lookslike a nice little car. I wasn't aware of that car since you don't see manyProtons on the road these days. Does Proton owe Lotus now?

Look, let's stop all this pointless arguing, shall we?
It would be more interesting to hear all about your own car - is it *really* true that you can fit 30 multi-pack boxes of Vidal Sasson demi perm Hi-Glo deep shine treatment in a Vitara without folding the rear seats?
Wot a motor!

Ha, still at it, obviously haven't been able to persuade your daughter into it yet? Bet she'd get into the Vitara and get her arse over the gearknob for the local lads to sort her out. I suspect the bushes would win the day over that Neutron for her...

But you're comparing a 2 year old car with a NINE year old car that's asking nearly half the money of the former, and is really only worth about £500-£1k absolute tops. Looking on dealer forecourts for sub-£2k is nearly always going to come up with overpriced s**te.

I've run all manner of old s**te. Engine and driveline problems are very rare these days - they are on pretty much any car made in the last 15 years - barring dual mass flywheels, and user error (running without oil or water, or massive abuse like dumping the clutch at full steering lock). That's why even BCA warranty them. Effectively, the only bit of the warranty that's important for a modern car is the cover on the electronics and bodywork, because these are the things that will one day write the car off.

Nah, the tart would do it with me. Let's face it the local lads wouldn't touch her with a barge pole in that Neutron of yours so she'd be pretty much at the bottom of the barrel and grateful for owt. :-0
Why don't you bring her along to this NG, we'd love to hear her views on that Neutron bargain of yours!

Hang on a mo' (no pun intended) - let me get this straight (again, no pun)
You're telling me now that you are, actually, 'bi' - sexual?.......
I'm a tolerant person, Jules, but I'm not sure that even I can condone playing with both sides of the racquet! - no wonder you seem so confused about what constitutes a used car bargain, when you can't even work out your own sexuality!
Besides, you haven't really thought this thing through, have you? Let's imagine that you're out on a date with your boyfriend - you're cruising (no pun) along in that bargain 'Y' reg Punto that you bought from our mutual newsgroup chum, Adrian.
It's late, the roads are clear, Barry White is groaning suggestively from the car stereo, and you're casting sidelong glances at the tight bulge in the crotch of your companion's Levi's. You're looking for a secluded layby to pull up in (one with a public toilet would be even better) when, without warning, the Punto starts to make some raucous mechanical noises, the engine management light comes on, and the car comes to an abrupt halt!
You know, deep in your heart, what the problem is - and you climb from the driver's seat cursing loudly and profanely, *F*ck you, Adrian!! - why didn't you do the timing belt before you sold this pile of s*it to me?!!!"
That's the evening ruined - instead of caressing the firm ripe smoothness of your boyfriend's buttocks, you have to turf him out of the car and enlist his aid in pushing that nasty little second-hand banger for nearly half a mile into the very layby that you were originally heading for.
He (your boyfriend) is so pissed off at the way the evening has turned out that he thumbs the first wagon that passes by, and is off in the cab for a quick shag at the next truck-stop - while you are left gloomily surveying your broken Punto.
Moral? - if you're going to run old bangers, stick with dating men (large, heavily built men). They, at least, can help you push your cars when they break down. My daughter, on the other hand, is slightly built - and would be unable to assist (and she'd find the whole thing extremely distasteful, into the bargain)

+AD4- I'm trying to find a photo that would be more suitable for your own
+AD4- tastes, Jules - but images of Mr Malaysia 2006, stripped to his thong, and
+AD4- lasciviously draped across the bonnet of a Savvy at the Kuala Lumpur motor
+AD4- show, are surprisingly difficult to get hold of.

+AD4- In fact, you could do me a favour and have a look through your own private
+AD4- image collection to see if you have anything suitable.
Is it me, or have standards of trolling dropped hugely since this piece of distended dog's rectum started posting ? :( The old +ACI-homophobe+ACI- routine has been kinda passe since the mid-nineties or thereabouts, 1/10 for turning up....
