that Ford Starcraft gearbox

finally got it out, took it somewhere and they said it was a Type 9...rang around some places and no one had em...

found someone who will refurb it (syncro gone), one scrap yard said Ginetta kit cars got all the boxes and back ends in Sheffield...so went down there and put me onto someone who will refurb it (Hillsbrough) says about 150quid

Should get it back next week...i hope all done

went to get a clutch kit, 130quid from the car spares....ouch.

trouble is, as some of you said, it could have been the wrong gearbox oil in the 1st place...so what type should i use? car spares guy in his book is says special product

Hoping to get it back together end of next week...

cheers

ask the people re-conditioning it, they should know all about the box, what makes them screw up etc, so they should know waht oil to use.

the oil to use is called MT75 I have some here made by carlube, any good car shop should have it.

the 2 scrap yards mentioned something like MT75 but talking about gearboxes...ie not that one.

i can get a recon clutch for much less than half.....is that false economy? ta

the later box is the mt(x?)75 it has an alloy body and is a better box. just a coincidence that the oil is the same.

you already have a secondhand clutch. you might consider just putting a new plate in your old clutch.

check the spigot bearing in the back of the crank, if it disintegrates it can give the same effect as clutch drag
