Basically a sound choice - cheap to run, cheap to own, reliable. Don't buy the clutchless manual as it's the only unreliable bit.

It has customer's opinions and reviews, so it should all be accurate. The Yaris came at the top of some lists a few years ago.

Yaris' are very reliable, cheap, economical, and the 1.0 is very to insure. It may vary depending on which model, but the 1.0 T2 is insurance group 2 (1 is the lowest possible), and the combined fuel consumption figure is 50mpg.

The Aygo is going to be lauched soon (if it hasn't already). If you're thinking of a brand new one then the Aygo is likely to be cheaper, more economical, smaller, and even cheaper to insure. I'm not sure whether the Aygo is replacing the Yaris, or whether they're going to continue the Yaris. If you're looking at a 2nd hand one then the Yaris will be a good choice.

My mate had a Yaris, apart from the fact it's a wee belter to drive, cheap to insure etc. it also protects it's occupants rather well. He was in his, 4 up, wife and two teenage kids, when he skidded off the road and down a valley side in a blizzard. Car went end over end and was stopped by a tree. All 4 were ok and what's more, the RAC couldn't find him so he trudged to the nearest farm, the farmer came out with his tractor, pulled the car out. The car then drove home, where, once the insurance company got involved, it was written off. I was very impressed. His was the 1 litre vvt. As far as he's concerned it saved the 4 most important people in his life. He now runs a Freelander tho !!!

What is it about Yarises (Yarii?)? A friend of ours managed to roll his girlfriend's in a downpour - with her in the passenger seat.

Is it that the car has no grip whatsoever? Or is it the drivers that think they're immortal so fail to think "Hmm, conditions look a bit shit, I'd better slow down"?

ITHM "it saved the 4 most important people in his life from his stupidity and incompetence"?

Which won't make any difference if he insists on driving far too bloody fast for the road conditions.

IMHO, modern cars are so detatched from what's going on underneath them that drivers really do think they're immortal.

He made one mistake, the first in his entire 25 year driving career, after being a successful club rally driver and a member of the IAM? Admittedly he is Italian with the great name of Giannini - quite well known in automotive circles, but give him a break !!! I'd sooner get in the co-pilot seat with him rather than you, you know. Did your friend and girlfriend walk away? That says a lot for this little car.

Think the Yaris is getting replaced 2006. AFAIK the Aygo is not a replacement.

I drive a mid-engined 2 seater Toyota and was most dis-chuffed at being given courtesy Yaris for a few days - that was until I drove it. Cracking little car, superb & nippy handling. Only fault - it's too tall, I could see over the top of transit vans, goodness know what it'll be like to do the roof when washing it :D

Which could quite easily have killed his entire family. If you're going to c*ck up, do it in style..

I bet it wasn't the only mistake he's ever made - just the only one that's bitten back potentially fatally.

Right...

Yes. He just put it onto it's roof in a freshly ploughed field.

More amazingly, since it was her car, she didn't blame him, either - "Nothing he could do - it was the weather"...

Does it, though?

Yaris isn't *that* special. It's not bad, but it's not *all* *that*. (Oh, and one for Pinking Peter - the Seicento...

No, it's a lot smaller than the Yaris.

The Aygo/C1/107 looks bloody impressive, actually. I had a good nose over a C1 - very nice indeed. Some very funky features. They do seem to be in the showrooms now - at least, there's one appeared outside one of my local Cit dealer this week, and my brochure appeared in the post the other day.

I'm like that - tough. :-)

They're bullet proof aside some of the clever funky semi-automatics.

To drive, they're good enough, but I always found the ride too firm and choppy for the amount of body roll. But I'm fussy like that...

"Thanks for all the input folks, had a really good test drive in a 1 litre today and was very impressed, so we bought it.

Not the Yaris, ultra harsh ride, every stone and pebble is bone shaking and the clutch is a switch.
