Vauxhall Omega 3.0 V6 Auto

Hi ,

I purchased a 1994 Vauxhall Omega 3.0 V6 Elite recently. It seems to be running fine with the exception of the following problems.

  1. The engine seems to run very warm between 90-100oC. At about 100oC the fan cuts in, as it should however it seems to creep back up to 100oC very quickly.
  2. (this may be linked to number 1 as it seems to be more frequent when the engine runs warm) The revs will be fine then, usually when slowing at say a red light the revs will go upto about 2/3000 revs. You brake but the car wants to keep going. I have cleaned the idle control valve but the fault is still there.
3.Suspension seems soft. It might need new shocks but I'm not too sure if the suspension is naturally soft.

Apart from that the car is great especially as it cost £1800.

Thanks in advance. Cheers Colin.

P.S. is 20mpg the norm in town driving?

I'd say if you truly are getting 20 solely around town thats *very* good!

  1. Not entirely sure, but it may be that it is a 2 speed cooling fan, and the 1st speed isn't working.
  2. If the Idle Control Valve is clean, it may be that the throttle valve itself is sticking open. If it was the Idle Valve, the car would also be likely to cut out when returning to idle.
  3. Nothing to worry about. Some Omegas had quite soft suspension.

Get it checked for blowing head gasket. Common problem on this V6.
