Volvo C70 computer

I am having problems with the park assist - there was heavy rain and then I got a message that it needs servicing. It occurs to me that now it has dried out it may all be fine and just need resetting. Is there a cable and software I can get to check this on my laptop and do the resetting myself? Or is this gear very expensive? I had two quotes to do the diagnostics of around £40 + VAT.

There seem to be all sorts of things on ebay ranging from £20 to £200 but I have no idea whether they work.

If you are considering a cheap EOBD code reader, then it will not do what you want. It will only give the information relating to emissions-based faults that is legally required by EU legislation, and provide a means to turn off the MIL.

The equipment needed to do non-emissions related diagnosis is unlikely to be affordable for casual home use. Bear in mind also that the diagnostic equipment will only provided data for someone with the knowledge to interpret it.

Thank you Chris. That has saved me a lot of messing around. I am thinking of taking the car into my local garage that do all sorts of makes. Do you think that they are going to have the ability to diagnosis properly this fault, down to checking which sensor is faulty? Or is that the sort of job that you need to go to a specialist Volvo dealer for?

IMHO, local garages don't have a hope in hell of finding this type of fault; they usually have an arrangement with a local mobile auto electrician, and if he can't fix it, they take it to a dealer in any case.

Of course, there's no guarantee that a dealer will fix it first time around, especially if it's intermittent.

I didn't entirely understand what fault you actually have ATM; what makes you think you have some sort of sensor fault?

EDIT: If the fault is still showing, this may help:

I know you have a C70, but it may still be relevant, and maybe you could fix it yourself. If not, it might be a good place to ask.
