washing liquid on halogen bulb glass

Putting in a new halogen headlamp. Haven't got any methylated spirits handy to clean it with. (Thinking of cleaning it since someone might have handled it with sweaty fingers before i got it, which would shorten its' life).

Would it be worth wiping the glass with a clean paper tissue dipped in a little washing up liquid mixed with warm water and then wiping it dry? Or is this not the best way?

No!

If it's new from the packet, and *you* haven't touched, just fit it.

I would not be placing it in water as you may get water in the base ceramic material and this will short the bulb.

No, it won't. But if you're really worried polish it with a clean bit of plain tissue.
