Weird Juddering???

Dear all,

I run a Rover 214SEI, 1997 (M - Old shape).

From a cold start up, I always leave it to run for a minute or two before I go on my merry way. In the past few weeks though, Im finding after a mile or so, if I go from 4th into 5th, the car judders and I have to drop into

4th again.

After about 1/2 mile or so it goes away and everything is ok.... its beginning to worry me a bit...

The temperature guage shows no 'high' sign. I have checked the fluids etc and they are all ok....

Any idea's whatsoever would be well appreiated on what the problem may be.

Are you sure this isn't just happening to 5th gear in general? Have you been on longer journeys and tried out 5th gear?

It sounds as though something is still cold. Is your thermostat stuck open? Could it be a gearbox oil problem? I had a sticky shift on my XM when it was cold that was improved by changing gearbox oil.

well, it might be that you have a spark problem on one cylinder and the extra load of fifth causes that cylinder to "flame out"

Isn't this worse for the engine than just setting off straight away? Not that its likely to have anything to do with the original problem.
