Hi When I stopped at the light on my way home tonight my car seems to judder whist ticking over as though it missing. When I lifted the bonnet I noticed fuel leaking from a fuel pipe union on the fuel pump.
Will this cause the above symptoms or could it be something else.
Also will the fuel pipes be a dealer only part?
Your leak could well be inducing air into the fuel system, a symptom of this is often a mis-fire sometimes at idle, although you usually get a surging symptom as well. Would make sense to cure the leak first wouldnt it?

If it's one of the high pressure pipes to the injectors it is probably not a dealer only part, although it might be a "diesel specialist or dealer" part. These pipes are constantly hammered by the injector pump pressures, work harden and eventually fatigue crack and start to leak usually on a union or a bend. It used to be a common problem with older diesels but these days it doesn't seem to happen as much.
If it's any other part you'll be talking Andyspares (or other Peugeot / Citroen specialist) or a main dealer.

Buying the pipe from the dealer has the advantage that they come bent to the right shape & they're stronger. & yes it will judder if it's cracked.
Diesel specialists often have the right parts in stock, especially for a common engine. I needed an injector pipe for a JCB 3Cs once and they had it on the shelf, i.e. pipe for injector 3 on BMC diesel engine.

It is leaking at the union at the fuel pump end although I can't see a split. I went to the main dealer today and it seems that I can only buy the fuels pipes as a set of 4 @£49 +vat.
Would it be possible to obtain one of these from somewhere other than a Citroen dealer so I only have to buy the faulty one?

Yep, try your local diesel specialist , they'll make you one with a massively over engineered version of a brake pipe flaring kit ( they're made of steel)
You could try the local scrap yard or even a Peugeot dealer or a diesel specialist.
The engine you've got is the XUD9 and can be found in Peugeot 306/405/406 as well as the Citroen ZX/Xsara/Xantia/Berlingo amongst others it's a pretty common engine so the pipe should be widely available. The only complication is that there were two different types of fuel pump fitted to that engine and these need different pipes.
