crankshaft confusion

Hi, Prior to buying my eunos (imported to britain) i read the miata net garage article which was clear and informative. armed with this info i bought a



1991 eunos. the crank bolt had the large shoulder flange and the pulley had
8 slots. yesterday i had a new crankshaft oilseal fitted. in conversation the mechanic ( a sensible and careful chap) described the shaft as short nosed - end of saft terminating aprox half inch short of pulley face and key extending beyong end of shaft. I'm confused - any ideas? Cheers Morien

On both the 90 and the later 91 crankshaft design, there is a gap between the shoulder of the bolt and the end of the crankshaft. On the

90, the bolt clamps directly to the timing gear. On the 91.5, a larger diameter bolt with a wider shoulder clamps a round plate that sits over the end of the timing gear.

The key is the number of slots and you have 8, which means the later design.
