I've ordered a new Duetto Glass Window No-Zip top.. should be here sometime next week. I've looked at the instructions on miata.net and of course I got the directions from Duetto. Hopefully it'll be an easier install than the Robbins I did a few yrs ago which took my friend and I about 12hrs.... but if anyone has any not-previously-documented tips on these semi-new tops, they would certainly be appreciated.
I believe I've finally got an acceptable solution for semi-rain-proofing the damaged top (cut all the way accross above the rear window & down the sides). Taping the window portion to the rest of the top didn't work since the window is too heavy for the tape to hold.
So here's what I did:
First I have two strategically sized boxes to support the window. One sits under the bottom of the window holding that portion up (nearly) where it would normally be when closed. Then a second box (a shoebox) stands upright between the first box and the rear brace and supports the high end of the window. This puts it relatively close to its natural zipped closed position.
I then taped a garbage bag (essentially a rectangle plastic piece a bit wider than the window and about 6" tall) to the rear bow and draped it out the hole above the window. Then I taped it to the sides of the window on the outside to keep it from blowing around and out of place.
This works well enough when the car is parked. Fortunately I haven't had to test the solution when driving yet, tho I believe a few more strategically placed pieces of tape should secure it well enought to drive with if the need arises.
