Please tell us what highways you use.
Talk to some of the companies that specialise in so called "super chips", replacement programs for your engine management system. They will probably have the info you want. A modern vehicle like yours is unlikely to rely on a spring tension balance weight in the rotor arm or similarly crude mechanical device.

Can you let us know when you are making a journey, so we can stay safely at home?
I originally asked the question of Salesman at Merc dealer and he gave the
135mph figure. I have since found out 155mph is top speed, thanks for all your responses!I burn up the asphalt on trips thru New Mexico, never a cop around.

Hello,
Whilst you're at switching the chips, see to that the tyres are rated for 155mph. Otherwise, you're in serious trouble if one of them fails between 135 and 155.
They are probably equipped with H-rated tyres rather than V- or Z-rated which are more expensive.
C> 2003 E500 has speed limiter set at 135mph, can this be removed or > deactivated? >
Yeah Grant, I came through NW a couple of years ago, flat out in my 1981 300SD at 110. In some spots I never dropped below 90 for over a half hour. Never saw a cop or even another car for that matter. But, I, a lead footed ex 911 owner, would say that 155 mph is flirting with the devil. Do be carefull.
