96 & 97 E320 rear view mirror issues

I'm looking at a couple of used ones for work cars. (I drive about 100 miles a day and drove an old 300DT for a while. Definitely a step up from my recently- deceased 91 Camry [291K miles!].)

Anyway, both E320s, 1996 & 1997, have a broken rear view mirror! It seems the oddest thing, how this would happen. But both just hang there and flop around.

Is it a big job to replace? I seem them for $100 to $200 or thereabouts on

Any serious technical concerns in doing the job?

Thanks,

Collin

No answer on the mirror but you should know that of these models the '97 has the 5 speed electronically controlled overdrive transmission. Its a very smooth shifter and preferable to the old 4 speed hydraulic box, IMHO.

The mirrors are electronically dimmed and it could be that some dimwit didn't know this and tried to "fix" or adjust them. At first I was also puzzled by the mirror - but I didn't manage to break it!
