Groaning steering.

Aug 22, 2009 1 Replies

My 2000 S 430 with 96k miles seems to make a slight groan at low speed sharp turns, like when turning from the driveway into the street. It did this for awhile about six months ago, then quit, now has begun again. It does it when turning either right or left. The sound is very slight, almost more felt than heard. It is not noticeable above slow speed. The power steering fluid is OK. The shock absorbers have recently been rebuilt.

Any ideas?

Mike

You have a rack and pinnion steering system. In these system, it is the seals that cause this groanong noises and the only solution is to change out the rack and pinion system for a rebuilt unit.
