1971 MGB - Air Rail

I am in the process of restoring a 1971 MGB and tha air rail on the car would need to be replaced. I have seen many photos of engine compartment that do not have the air rail installed. What does it really do and does it need to go back on.

It is part of the pollution reducing gear fitted to these engines in that period.

Pollution gear may be required to comply with local laws where you live.

I suspect that you cannot remove it on its own, there may be other modifications that need to be made.

they were next to useless and reduced power. They can simply be removed and the holes in the cylinder heads plugged with allen-head bolts - worked on mine anyway!
