Brakes problems on a 1971 Midget.

Sometimes you can get an air bubble in the system perhaps at the top of a bend in the brake pipe.The only way to clear this is to pump the brakes hard and fast ,maybe with the help of a friend,when bleading them .

Master cylinder has rusted and the piston seized inside or the rubbers worn due to rust. either way it will need a full overhaul.

Thanks for all of your help I'm a first time user of the message board and I will be back. I'm going to do the master cylinder rebuild and flush the brake lines to insure that I have all of the crud and air out of the system. Thanks for heading me in the right direction. Thanks Brent

I would also have a look at the calipers (these only need a clean out - steel wool the pistons and clean the inner caliper with a course wet and dry 240G and replace the seals and channel seal)

The rear cylinders will also need a overhaul - about 3 years in attention is all they need for replacement or overhaul.

Neither of these should be expensive - but I would rather stop.

Brake fluid should be changed every 12 mths as it absorpted moisture which causes the rust.
