I have a 1977 MGB GT.
We have had anew clutch, bled the clutch, put oil in the gearbox, put oil in the back axle.
It is very difficult to find gears, especially reverse. Much harder than usual for an MGB. We hear a very large grinding even though the clutch is fully depressed and seems to be clearing.
Any advice? Is it possible to change a selector from the top of the gearbox? Inside the car?

May I take you back to basics. If you are not burying your clutch foot to the floorboards, perhaps you could move your driving seat forward a notch. Spouse and I need to change seat position each time we switch drivers, otherwise I entertain the neighbours to a gear crashing symphony. She has rather long legs, but enough of that!
If that rings no bells, suggest you do a little bleeding of the clutch hydraulics, on the MGB bleeding can either work like a dream or can prove very tricky. Some owners even pump new fluid from slave to reservoir to ensure that an air lock is avoided.
Only after that would I consider major gearbox overhaul. Hope it wont be needed. Cheers & all the best P '67MGB '97 MGF
I understand there have been some faulty new clutch throw-out bearings encountered in the past couple of years. When we did the engine rebuild on my ' 70 B-GT, the new clutch which we installed as a matter of course was dreadful. After replacing both master and slave cylinders and several bleeds, the engine came back out and the new throw out bearing proved to be the culprit. Once that was replaced with a new old type bearing, all is well. Frustrating as hell though.
