I have a 2000 1.8L Mirage and was wondering what type of Transmission fluid to use. The owners manual says to use the Mitsubishi Diamond oil but I was wondering if it is actually the same as regular AT fluid or do I have to buy it straight from the dealer?

I went around and around on this question regarding my daughter's 2000 Mirage. After emailing all the major suppliers and getting some conflicting advice I decided that the few extra dollars involved to get the Diamond SP from the stealership was worth it compared to the potential downside of the cost of tranny work. Cheap insurance. Apparently the Diamond SP has some specific additives required for that and some other Mitsu transmissions. The majors all seem to have a "one size fits all" fluid for foreign car trannies but I'm not completely convinced. FWIW YMMV DFB
