1600cc CVH and Type 9 to 2000cc Zetec and Borg-Warner T5

I think I want more go.

The car currently has the CVH and ford gearbox in it. Googling makes me think that a Zetec and the T5 box will probably fit, but if there's someone out there who knows about the critical dimensions - engine mounts to rear-of-engine, and front-of-gearbox to shift lever, would they pipe up?

And any other useful tidbits you might think of are also welcome...

Would be useful to know what car it's in: Fiesta? Escort? Sierra? Kit car?

Why not just use the Type9 box?

I don't like it. It's hard to shift sometimes (just when you want it to QUICKLY it won't), and I was hoping the T5 would be better, and maybe lighter?

And maybe I'll get them both in the same donor car - that was going to be the next question...

I can't think of any cars offhand that used the Zetec and was RWD so I can't see you getting both from a single donor. AFAIK the T5 was only fitted to the Sierra Cosworth and TVR used it with their V8's, check the ratios but they may not be ideal unless you up the power in the Zetec a bit. If you are intending tuning it then using a Ford Duratec or Vauxhall C20XE engine may be a better starting point as you can get much more power from these cheaper than you can with the Zetec. It sounds like your gearbox needs an oil change or is just worn out, I've got one in a Westfield and don't have the problems you describe. If you're changing the engine anyway it may be worth speaking to BGH Geartec and see if they can rebuild it with ratios better suited to the new engine. Or try another one first, they're not exactly expensive or hard to find. I don't know but I'd doubt the T5 would be lighter as it was build to be a more heavy duty gearbox, originally for the Ford Mustang.
