190E 2.3-16 :: sticking accelerator

Hi everyone,

I have the above car with a slight problem: The accelerator keeps sticking down and reving the engine like mad. It seems to mostly happen when moving off after idling for a while (or moving off when the engine is hot). It

*always* happens in traffic jams -- the stop-start motion seems to set it off.

I've cleaned and oiled the linkage but it's not made much difference.

Any ideas please?

Many thanks, R

Replacing the whole throttle cable is probably the quickest solution (if not the easiest) as it's probably frayed somewhere and is catching in the sleeve.

I'd just replace the throttle cable. Trivial cost, and it'll almost certainly sort it. Failing that, you need to replace the spring on the engine-end.

Thank you -- i'll have a look at that for sure.

Have you ever heard of the actual pedal being the problem and not the springs at the engine end, or is it all based on those few springs under the bonnet?

No idea - it depends on the car I suppose.

Get your Hayne's manual, and take a look. If there's some sort of spring arrangement at the pedal end, it should be easy to see/check/replace/lubricate ?
