More cylinders every time for me. 6 or 8 cylinders minimum.

Forced induction is good for that "shove", but a big V8 is so much nicer. There's bugger all better than leaving it in 5th and just using sheer grunt to pass things. Turbos are good, but to get the full effect you need to at least drop a gear - unless it's a big engine with a couple of low inertia turbos on, like my Sierra Estate.. That really was the best combination.

Either would do me fine. I'm intrigued by superchargers, so wouldnt mind tinkering with one of them in my car as space is limited and i love the noise they make. Yes Vamp, i know a V6 will fit, but its a big job and the SC'd lump slots straight in :) On the other hand i'm still hankering after a V8 SD1, which i would make very loud so everyone could hear it and appreciate it :) Both trains of thought have their benefits, and equally have their limitations

My g/f's neighbour used to have a mental little home-built car he used for off-roading. I used to love getting woken up on sunday mornings by a Rover V8 with not much in the way of silencers echoing around the bedroom!

A lighter car to start with. Will go round corners better then.

bah V6 is for wimps, some guy in the US ditched the MR2 MK1 boot and stuck a V8 into it :)

i don't understand american cars over here. too many narrow, winding roads, too many traffic jams.

I was thinking Bugatti EB110 but that will do in a pinch. Or a custom quad turboed Mclaren F1. Because the stock one just isn't quick enough. ;)

If it's a big car, you want big displacement and at least 6 cylinders IMO.

Turbocharger in something smaller, or a really good revvy engine. Depends what you want to do really. If you want to waft, a decent displacement or a civilised turbo is what you want. If you want serious go in something smaller, you want a big turbo or a revvy engine, but both have the problem of not pulling brilliantly from low revs, though some engines are much better at this than others (variable valve timing and inlet manifolds etc.)
