Farewell 620 TI !

is gone :( But it's been replaced with

:D I hope you all appreciate the way I completely ignored all advice given, and went for the 406 !

Anyway, popped along to look at it yesterday. It's a 3-year old 3.0 V6 SE on a '51 plate (the private plate in the pics has gone).

Fully loaded, *immaculate* condition, one owner from new, full history,

40,000 miles.

And it looks *gorgeous* in the flesh ! That blue is pearlescent, and it sorta goes a bit greeny-turquoise when the light gets on it. And I was very taken with the interior too - it looks real nice when you get inside. The seats are proper armchairs, and all fully electric-like. Heated too. Mmmmm. Before I'd seen it in real-life, I wasn't sure about the blue bodywork, and brown leather - but it actually suits very nicely ! The pics don't do it justice at all.

Went for a spin down some country lanes, and I couldn't resist. The engine was great ! Not quite as quick as the TI, but 210bhp and 280Nm is still adequate - and the ride is an order-of-magnitude better.

The dealer I got it from, is a Porsche/BMW/Merc specialist, so it's not something they usually sell. He'd took it in part-ex against a brand new Merc SLK, so he wanted it off his forecourt - which means it was up at about £2000 less than it's worth (going by Parkers and AutoTrader values). So I got a bit of a bargain really ! He gave me the book-price for the TI too as a part-ex (a grand).

It's much less than I planned to spend, so I've got lots of money left over for some shiny new 18" rims, to show off my massive four-pot Brembos :D

I'm braced for the "DOH ! You shouldn't have bought one of them !" posts - but for the price I paid, I don't rekon I could have got anything better. And I *really* like it, so I'm very happy indeed :D

Hopefully picking it up in about a week !

w00t !

Nothing wrong with getting the car you love :)

I think the 406 coupé is a nice looking car, but I couldn't afford to run the 3.0 lol, now get over to

and whack some pics in :)

I still think the 406 Coupe looks gorgeous, it's a really nice design and has aged well. Doesn't look old at all even though the design is probably about five years old?

And I still think Rover 600's are for old men, even the Ti. ;)

So, IMHO, you've done a good thing!

Well done fella

Agreed. They arrived on a "P" plate, so it's more like 8 years old now ! Pininfarina make pretty objects :)

I fell in love when I set eyes on it - it's rip-snortingly gorgeous in the flesh.

Not bothered about that - I only got rid cos it was getting a bit long in the tooth, and it was very loud and unruly.

Cheers :)

Agreed :D

I can't see it costing any more than the gas-guzzling TI to be honest. Parts will be more, but I paid under the odds for the car, so I'm not too bothered about that. There are plenty of online Pug suppliers anyway - EuroCarParts, GSF, Parts4Peugeot, etc.

Done :)

I like the look. One of the lads (Sales drone) has one. Same colour and interior. His is a bit kicked in though, because his plate has MAN U amongst the letters (original reg, not personalised), and he clubs in Liverpool most weekends.

Says it too thirsty to keep, but too battered to be worth doing up and selling, so he is trying to find somewhere to trade it in.

It is a beautiful colour.

What were the specs of your Ti?

I might just phone the dealer who you chopped in for and offer then a few hundred for the Ti

- possibly those exact ones infact. Not really much else I can do with it. Interior is more than sorted already, as are the brakes. It's got a 10-speaker JBL HiFi setup as standard, so that may or may not be left alone - haven't really heard it yet.

Not much I can do with the engine without spending loony money - although I've got a

sat in the loft at the moment (200 quid's worth !!!!!!!!) so that'll be going on if I can make it fit. Otherwise it'll be heading for eBay (so keep an eye out if you fancy the ultimate airfilter :)

Nice mate, I like that. Aguy at work has one in the lighter blue with black leather and that's rather lovely too.

BTW, aren't you the guy who told me you'd never buy another non-turbo motor.... ;o)

Like those wheels.

E-mail me if you cant get the airbox to fit. I have a friend who is a steel fabricator who made one fit to an E36 BMW (the dont make one as they have an odd airflow meter etc.

so let me know ;)

awesome airboxes BTW. even the Paxo gets a gain off them :o)

Ooh, cool, kind of Nuvola-blue-esque. Nice.

I'll take your word on the brown leather. Leccy seats are great though.

Go on then, how much was it?

Just one thought, did the 406 Coupe suffer the same "boot opening=20 without setting off the alarm and without breaking the lock" problem?

Seem to recall something on watchdog after they were introduced. Pug=20 refused on camera to accept it was a fault, and only a few had been=20 found, but a dealer tech anon and off camera admitted they were telling=20 all owners to get a fix fitted whenever they came in for anything else.

Pete go on you gotta ask what it does to the gallon :)

That's very sad but no matter how much you like a car it's nice to have a change every so often :)

Very nice. the 406 is certainly one of the best looking coupes out there. That's a good shade of blue too. Not sure about that brown interior though! Mind you, when I got my previous 620 it had a tan velour interior which I didn't really like at first, but you warm to it.

I'll take a guess - around 15-20 around town, depending on traffic, and up to 30 on a cruise, 35 if you drive like a girl.

Am I about right Nom?
