Blowing flexible pipe and MOT!

Hi guys, MOT due on the Vectra on Tuesday, it's got a bit of a blow through the flexible exhaust pipe which connects the down pipes to the cat. This bit of the exhaust is one whole lump with the cat. It really needs replacing but I don't want to replace the whole section as that costs 400quid. Can you cut out the flexible bit and weld in a new flexible section. If so where can you buy the flexible bits from? The downpipes and cat look in good condition with no rust etc. etc.

Four hundred quid ? For a Vectra ?

Clearly that's incorrect.

want £128 forthe front flexi-pipe including the Cat. Are you buying yours from the local Exhausts-Made-Of-Gold supplier or something ?

Yes, if you want. Seems like an awful lot of trouble to go to though...

It's not the sort of thing you can buy ready-made - you'd have to take one from another exhaust or something...

Unfortunately it's the 2.5V6 so

is the onewhich they don't do. Thanks for the link to buypartsby I didn't know they existed. The price I quoted was from the Vauxhall Trade Club and it's exchange!

But there is good news! Once under the car at the weekend to give it a pre-MOT service I couldn't feel any exhaust blow from the flexi-pipe! It turned out that the downpipes were loose where they connect to the exhaust manifolds. I re-used the copper nuts when I had the heads off last year, not sure if that's what made them loosen, anyway, I tightened them up and the blow is much better. I think I will get a couple of new round gaskets for them and a set of new nuts.

I know from previous purchases these nuts are about 3quid each! They are copper and have a oval "hole" which I guess makes them a lock type nut. Anyone know a cheaper source of these?

Keep well all,

Will

will do you theflexi-pipe on it's own for £32.

They're not particularly cheap - just a handy online catalogue of Timax's pattern-parts.

The same applies to the other link above, but it's Bosal's pattern-parts instead.

Timax and Bosal are the people all your local exhaust places, get their exhausts from.

Just go to your local exhaust place, and get them to sort it. They'll have

*plenty* of suitable nuts, and it'll cost you next to nothing.
