bulbs

Seems that halfords are doing 2 for 1 on some bulbs, including them non-E marked "rally" high wattage bulbs which means you can have two normal looking but somewhat brighter H7 bulbs for £6.99 for all that "off road" driving we all do. Of course you'll take the bulbs out and replace them with normal H7s (not the 70W naughty ones) whenever you use them on the road won't you.

I run a pair of 140/110W bulbs - and haven't been stopped yet!

Don't worry, you will, they'll see you coming! :)

When I did spot checks, we never bothered checking bulb wattage figures....

On a slight aside, was in the pityful emporium they call Halfrauds yesterday to buy a bulb kit for sisters Ka. The Book of lies suggests one needs kit 25 (H4 headlight bulb) for all Ka's from 97 onwards.

Infact later Ka's have dual headlight bulbs and the correct kit is 19, which has H1 and H7's in it.

All Kas have dual headlights, heh... They've always had H1s and H7s... as standard anyway.

Halfords have a training issue, too. You'd think with all the Ripspeed stuff they'd appreciate that people change standard parts, like bulbs. I went in for a set of bulbs, "what car do you have?" "That's irrelevant, I need H4s and H7s..." "What car?" "Ford Ka." "Oh well you need ..." "No, I don't have normal headlamps, I need..." Repeat as necessary.

Sometimes people can be too helpful...

Are you sure Dervy? There was a Y plate Ka in the carpark which I went to look at, and that had single bulb lights- i.e. H4's...

Yes I was sure. Not any more! ;)

The thing you need to remember about halfords as with most retail outlets is that anyone with half a brain cell won't work in them as the pay is crap.

This is very true, but sometimes that works to your advantage- the same local Halfrauds I discovered had incorrectly advertised the price for 5l ZipWax car shampoo, at 5.99 (same as the 1l bottle) and whats more, the til said 5.99 too!!! :O)

Okay okay.

I've checked with some of my Ka owning buddies and all but all have H1s and H7s, from the 96P to a 2004 one (not the absolute latest)...

Now I need to talk to Ford about it! I need to solve this mystery...

Did it have round Morettes on it - these use H4s. Kermy's dipped bulbs are H4s but the main beam part isn't used.

Get them wired on a relay across the other main beams - go for serious highbeam fun.

Heh, but I already have serious high beam fun! :)

Unless they're set wrongly (so you dazzle a Police driver on dipped beam) or you forget to dip them (so you dazzle a Police driver on full beam) then you never will be.
