Chipping a TDCi

Any thoughts? SP Tuning can get a Mondy 130 TDCi up to 165BHP/288lbft=20 for around =A3200. Not sure how it'd affect the injectors or DMF though.=20

As the engine is at 118k, is it even wise? Got FFSH and runs completely=20 trouble free.

As I'm pondering with maybe not getting another Capri, my other option=20 is to sell it and get a ST220.=20

Did we have this discussion a few months back?

"It depends" springs to mind. Injectors can just go at this sort of mileage anyway. If the injectors go it's something like £300 each, you need four, and without them it just doesn't work. So would you replace the TDCi if this needed doing..?

That's the main reason why I didn't go down the turbodiesel route. I'd really want to up the power, but it would hurt if something broke. The 2.2 is upped to around 190 bhp and feels suitably pokey.

You could go down the Bluefin route. If you replace the Mondeo because the injectors fail, remove the Bluefin code and have Superchips reset it so that you can re-Bluefin a replacement TDCi.

Gosh, the above sounds horribly sensible. Of course you *should* chip it... ;)

Apparently someone on the MEG group does a full set of injectors for=20 =A3250 + coding.

Bluefin apparently sucks dead donkey dick on the Mondeo, causing a lot=20 of emissions issues and many have reported the car running better as=20 standard. SP Tuning give you a copy of the original map and will remap=20 it for free back to standard if you want or remap it to what it was=20 upgraded to if the dealership wipe it.

Which would be well worth it!

The Saab specialist in Pontefract charges about a third of main dealer prices for just about everything. If it weren't for wearing 215/55/16W tyres, my 9-3 would be cheaper to by-the-book maintain than my Ka at a main dealer. ;-)

Fair dues then. Remapping is (probably) always better.

Unless you go really daft the DMF should be OK unless it's on the way out anyway- labouring the engine will kill it, but I'm guessing you don't do that.

That's why I was thinking SP Tuning which involves a man with a laptop programming a new 3D map, rather than something which just raises the pressure.

SP Tuning remapped my 406. When it went into the garage for a new clutch, and the battery was reconnected, none of the keys would start the car. No idea whether or not the remap was the cause, but Mr Shires didn't get back to me when I rang him to ask about it, despite the fact that I made it clear that I wasn't looking to blame him, just wondering if he could shed any light on the subject. The car ended up getting the ECU flashed back to a stock map and the body control computer replaced...

They tend to do that when it's been disconnected for more than a short=20 period. There's usually a procedure to re-sync the key with the car=20 involving wierd handshake rituals.

The 406 more or less fully shat itself. I'm not implying it was his fault at all, but I thought it was shabby not to get back to me, even if it was to say "Nope, no idea".

Apparently MK3 Mondeos do too. If the battery has been disconnected long enough to do the ECU reset, there's a specific first start thing to do to get the ECU to relearn your driving style and you have to re- teach the ECU that controls the windows where the stops are.

Indeed, if only to say "that's what they all do".

maybe it was teh remap and he knew it was lol
