Can anyone tell me why spring kits for the 8V MK2 GTI and the 16V are different? Is it to do with the spring cups on the shocks or just the weight of the extra kit / engine on a 16V?

Weight of the engine plus some improvements in handling.
Could be because the 16V is 10mm lower to start with hence a 30mm lowering kit for each would need different springs.
That's what I'd say too.
There is that. At some point in the future I'm likely to be putting my Golf together with a mix of 8V and 16V bits so I was having a wonder...
