How does this stuff work? Does it tap into the standard ECU, override it or do you need some kind of EEPROM thingy?

I'm also tempted by the low $, I am thinking of this GT28 Kit for the 1.8T engine, either that or sell the car and get a Sline, I am in 2 minds at the moment

Either you splice into the wiring with connectors, or use a passthru=20 adaptor loom like I found (at the ECU end).

It intercepts readings from factory sensors and modifies them, so the=20 ecu sees different to what is actually produced (o2 reading, AF ratio=20 etc, boost produced, fuel flow etc).

You map it with a Laptop, it displays air, fuel, ignition maps and a few=20 other things. Not as nice as a full ecu replacement, but can do some=20 nice things. No need to burn an eeprom, it writes settings to the chip=20 inside. obviously, just like the factory ecu it has permanent power to=20 maintain it's changeable settings.

because it is a piggy back rather than a replacement, if you set=20 everything to zero in the maps, it just uses factory settings.

I've seen them sold second hand on Ebay for =A3180 buy now, and the=20 adaptor harness can be got in the UK for =A3110 + VAT from funkyproducts,= =20 so that might work out just as cheap.

It doesn't actually mean anything, the number plates last 3 digits were meant to be TXD but it turned out that had already been sold, so i ended up with TWY :)
